In the heart of our city, there exists a shelter that most people never see—the Dev Anand Divyang Ashram, home to 60 mentally and physically challenged children who were left to die on the streets. Dev Anand, who lost his wife and found his purpose in the darkest hour of his life, now spends every waking moment caring for those society has turned its back on.
These are our children, not animals. I found one lying in a room full of hay, covered in his own waste, rotting. My soul screamed that I had to do this work. People said my wife's death was punishment for my sins, that someone cursed me. But I made a promise—I would give shelter to such children. I begged for bricks, one by one, and built this ashram." - Dev Anand, Founder

Among the 60 children, eight are so severely affected they don't even know what they're doing—they eat their own excrement. Some were rescued from the streets where they wandered like mad souls, with long beards, not knowing if there was filth in their pockets or on their hands.
Some spit on my face. Some slap me. There are so many difficulties. But I don't see 60 children—I see 400 souls depending on this work," says Dev Anand, whose hands are bruised but whose heart refuses to give up.

Dev Anand doesn't ask for much. He doesn't ask for grand donations or new buildings. His appeal is heartbreakingly simple:
Two meals a day. A warm blanket to sleep under.
I'm not asking you to donate only to this ashram. But please, look at such children. According to astrology and spirituality, these children suffer from the afflictions of Shani, Rahu, and Ketu. Children lying on roads with worms crawling on them. I want that even if we can't do much, with your support, they get two meals a day and a quilt to keep them warm. That's all I ask.

This Diwali, while we light diyas in our homes, 60 children at Dev Anand Divyang Ashram will go to bed wondering if there will be food tomorrow. Dev Anand, a man who turned his grief into grace, is fighting every day to keep them alive.
People donate, yes. But I request with folded hands—please see these children. They are ours. They deserve to eat. They deserve warmth. They deserve to live
This Diwali, help him keep his promise.
